The precious memories

I haven’t been writing as much this year and there are so many stories that won’t get shared unless I get them down whilst I remember.
Luke's RC car at the skate park
A memory of the summer is the Rye beach house full of Luke’s friends and Alex holding his own with all the big kids.  Not being the annoying little brother (most of the time) but one of the gang.  The downside to this is Alex considers his best friends to be Luke’s best friends.  Interesting times with his birthday party invites later this year.

Luke is loving Grade 3 and has done so from the first week back at school.  He’s in the main part of the school and upstairs in a room with plenty of space and lots of light.  I was a bit worried about school this year as he’s not in the same class as his best friend for the first time.  He’s handled it all in his stride.

Do they look alike?
Some interesting dinner chats at our house as we planned our trip to France with a side trip to Austria for me plus one boy and G’s trip to Paris with one of the boys.  A bit of debate and bribery to see who is going where.  So it’s Alex coming with me to Austria… no surprises for those who know my mummy love boy!

It has been a summer dedicated to boogie boarding with both boys loving it.  The wetsuits from Oma have been used countless times as they chase the waves in all conditions.  They’ve surfed at Portsea, Sorrento, Sandy Point and Inverloch.
This is Alex's begging face, hard to resist...
Luke became obsessed with Nanoblocks (a very small building blocks a bit like Lego) and was badgering for them but without any pocket money saved (all spent on his RC car) it was beyond his reach.  Lucky timing of Uncle Nick’s visit and the perfect gift.  Sourced by Pippa I should add and then it was Pippa who spent hours putting them together for the boys.  Thank you, they are still proudly displayed in their room.
A very tired Alex, both boys are good at nodding off in the car
We have another nickname for Alex: Mr Me Also.  If Luke says he wants an apple then Alex says “me also”, if Luke wants to play soccer then Alex “me also”.  A charming turn of phase.

First soccer training last night so new shoes, shin guards and socks today
A few weeks ago Luke and I had to ride our bikes to Liam’s house for a RC car play date.  I forgot we were down to one car that weekend and G and I were off in the other direction at a birthday party.  So we set off for the 35 min ride running a bit late due to some last minute repairs to the car so we had to cycle fast to get there.  This meant using the bike lanes at times rather than the footpath.  Luke was bursting with pride and can’t wait to ride on the road again.

I thought soccer was a non contact sport
This year might be the year where the boys discover a love of books.  When we’re at the shops I’m always happy to buy them books if they really want them.  Last year they discovered a kids series called the Very Bad Book and at Christmas Grandpa Bill gave Luke a book called the 39 Storey Treehouse.  We all loved it and then last weekend we saw the 2 earlier books the 13 and 26 Storey Treehouses, so I bought them.  Then we went out for a yum cha lunch and both had their noses buried in the books.  It continued as we walked through the shopping centre.  I have to say I never thought I would experience that!

They just keep growing don't they?
I like it that they are active and enjoy the outdoors.
Rye must have been a blessing over the summer with plenty of swimming and, perhaps some fishing. I am not keen on surfing as I feel that salt water leaks into their brains and causes rust.
It pleases me that they enjoy school (I didn't) and hope that they are good scholars - it is important.
Looks like soccer is going to be the thing for winter (no lacrosse?)
Soon be off to France.
