J - Have three weeks really past since we got back from Europe? Arriving home allowed us to get back into routine, to spend more than a few nights in the one spot and to put Luke back into his own room!Unfortunately we all came down with bad colds and it’s taken until now to be feeling close to 100% again. It was particularly hard to watch Luke suffer – it was obvious he felt awful, he coughed, his nose streamed, he didn’t feed well and woke continually during the night. The poor little fellow.
There have been two major changes in Luke’s life since we got back. He’s started solids and loving it and he’s started childcare and is not sure if he likes it!
Luke’s first meal was baby rice mixed with breast milk. It was a new experience but he ate it up between giving us big smiles. Success. His menu now includes baby rice and pureed pear (tonight he’s trying apple) and pureed sweet potato and carrots. Still limited but we’re adding to it each week. I’ve now started to buy bibs and flannels to try to keep him clean.I was so happy to have Luke accepted into Childcare not long after we got back. Last week he started orientation, which is going for an hour or so to get used to the new situation. It was especially hard for me and I did wonder if I was doing the right thing. I spoke to a few friends who have already started childcare and was reassured that my feelings were perfectly normal. So we’re heading back there this week.
Other major achievements for Luke include:
Sitting up with assistance, he can stay sitting until he reaches for a toy and then he topples overGrabbing hair (his Mummy’s) and sucking it – we hope he doesn’t get furballs
Reaching for toys and passing them from hand to hand
Bathtime is getting precarious, Luke’s in the big bath as he’s outgrown the baby bath, as he kicks off from the sides and tries to escape our hold
News update!!!! I've just found Luke on the floor 1 metre from where I put him down. He's definitely not crawling yet but maybe wriggling along on his tummy.
G – The last 3 weeks have been much more interesting with Luke. I sense he is developing his personality, while at the same time he is much more aware of his surroundings (people and environment are less of an array of moving colours and sounds). I’m determined that Luke will enjoy all types of food so we’re developing a broad and exciting menu for his future meals. I’ll be doing some of the cooking.
Childcare is bound to be interesting for Luke. I think the main objective initially for him will be stand babies crying around him without it affecting him (and thereby avoiding the cascading crying baby domino effect)….
