Luke and Alex are true brothers. At times they love each other and then within the blink of an eye they are fighting and wrestling with each other. Sharing a room creates a strong bond but there are nights where one of them keeps the other up and then there are tears and statements of wishing they didn’t have a brother or didn’t have to share a room. Neither of those things will be changing!

I do love when they are with other kids and that they refer to each other as “my brother”. As in “my brother will be having the next turn”. “That (toy) is my brother s and you have to ask him if you can use it”.

Last weekend Alex was invited to a play date with Luke and two twin brothers from the school. Very kind of the other mother I thought and Alex true to style was a little difficult to drop off as he was a bit unsure but once we had gone he was so happy and loved being with the big boys.

I just had Alex’s kinder interview with his teacher to discuss whether she thinks he is ready to start school next year. Of course he is and she totally agreed. I am constantly surprised by the great reports of Alex from his teacher as with me (more so than G) he can be quite difficult. He gets these ‘rages’ when things don’t go his way. A rage can be door slamming, throwing things, unkind words and achieving what he wanted which is to disrupt the smooth flow of things and making us late. I am looking forward to Alex growing out of these as they are exhausting.

Football cards are the absolute currency in our house and both boys are keen collectors. Luke is a little more informed than Alex and a couple of weeks ago there was a major redistribution of cards. At the end of it Luke had all the good cards the silver codes, the gold ones, the 3D captain cards and the best and fairest cards. This had reduced his share of the cards to less than half of what Alex had. Alex’s share was all the normal cards which meant that he might have 3 or 4 of some players and he thought that was great. As a Mum I just sat back because both were happy with the outcome.

Every night we read a couple of books before bed and we have started to read some longer books over a few nights. Both boys love the ritual of folding the corner of the page.

Alex has a really cute saying when he hears a name that is also the name of someone at Possums with him. He says “Jessica. I’ve got a Jessica at Possums”.

My brother brings back early memories as I am about two years older than Ken and so I see a lot of similarities. Because of our birth dates he was only one class behind me at school.
As the elder I felt that it was unfair that in times of trouble "you should have known better" and sometimes we were treated as equals when it came to getting things.
With counselling I will probably get over it.
Winter is here so I guess that there will be a trip to the snow soon.
