Home sweet home

The blog has suffered since we returned from France. I blame the thousands of photos that we took whilst we are away which has resulted in me not picking the camera up since we returned…

Life continues with two little boys all the same.

Luke's new very cool bike.  He adores it and is taking very good care of it.
Grandpa Bill came to visit soon after we got back. That’s always a highlight and gives us some respite from the boys. Luke enjoys the time been taken to school and picked up. Although Grandpa reports that Luke can be quite bossy about keeping an eye on the time and getting to the tram stop in plenty of time so he's not late for school. Bill, I promise that I haven’t briefed him on your time keeping abilities….

A major highlight of the visit was Luke getting a new bike. A lovely tradition that Grandpa Bill has established is that he buys the boys bikes. To be honest Luke could have waited until he grew a few more cms but the real problem was Alex who was starting to look comical on the little green and white bike. So Luke has a great black and green bike with gears that very large and Alex has transitioned to the red bike. Alex is enjoying riding a lot more and enjoying I think the bigger wheels which makes him go faster and keep up more easily with the rest of us.

Alex loves his 'new' bike - well new tires and seat!
Our Wednesday school run is no longer with me jogging alongside but on my bike as well as there is no way I could keep up with the two of them on foot anymore.
Strawberries are for us and not the birds
The rest of the time has been taken up with establishing our vegetable patch. Alex is a very keen gardener and enjoys being outside, watching the progress of the plans and determining what we will plant next. He was devastated that the birds have been eating his ripening strawberries so with much nagging we got to the plant shop to buy a net and have installed it.

Luke has resettled back into school and is making huge progress with his reading. Combined with his developing maturity he is such a delight to be around.

A blip for Luke has been his ‘shark teeth’ which has delayed his first experience with the tooth fairy or the cash fairy as the kids think of her. Shark teeth are adult teeth that come in behind the baby teeth so the baby teeth don’t fall out as quickly. We are wobbling them every day in an effort to get them out and exchanged for cash.

Alex has been going to his Prep orientations and is super excited about being at school next year. Being working parents we were planning to have him attend only the first orientation as we know Alex is familiar with the school and at his Prep interview he handled himself well above what I would have expected. He’s ready to be there! However, one of the French families we know from Possums have a son Alex’s age who chooses to not speak English at all and has recently started speaking French with his family and now Alex. So they have been taking Alex with them to orientation as part of their son’s transition. It’s delightful to see Alex in this role and being caring and considerate of one of his friends.

Luke, Jeremie and Seren playing the Wii
Uncle Jeremy and Seren visited which the boys just loved. I do suspect that Jeremy, like many others, is amazed at the unlimited energy the boys have for ball sports and computer games.
