Bill was a recent visitor. He told all his friends in Kalgoorlie that he was coming to Melbourne to take his Grandson for walks – he failed to mention that he had to include me on those walks with Jacques! We caught the ferry from St Kilda to Williamstown during Bill’s stay. This is something Bill’s wanted to do ever since our wedding. I don’t think our guests were aware of the pre negotiations that took place to allow me to arrive by car and not by ferry (“My hair…”). We of course dropped into Breizoz and Bill finally got to eat a crepe.
This week is Melbourne Cup week and I’m enjoying four days off. G and I spent a night in Rye and will use the last day of the long weekend to get some things done around the house. It’s never ending but a pleasurable experience. Tonight we had our second BBQ of the year and enjoyed some alfresco dining. Summer doesn’t seem that far away.
We’ve been to the first of three birth classes at the hospital. Talk about a long night. Whilst it was good to meet a midwife and see the birthing centres both of us felt they could had delivered the content in much less than the three hours it took. Worst of all was a room full of starving pregnant women and only a few biscuits to share amongst us. I was nearly mobbed for my muesli bar and apple. So now we’re up to week 33.
G – Preparations, preparations… Work has been quite busy the last couple of weeks. Joceline is getting rounder by the minute ! It feels a bit funny regarding her as a literal carrier of our child, with Joceline complaining of feet kicking her ! The change from viewing Joceline from a lover to one of being a carrier of another human is also a little unsettling. Slowly, the confrontation of themes such as evolution, the development of the species, so called civilisation, and ultimately my own mortality are brought up, as questions ultimately arise related to life’s meaning.I saw someone at work bring their one month old baby into work, and I was almost moved to tears by the experience – emotions I could not fully explain.
