At Alex’s 4 month checkup last week he weighed in at a hefty 7.7 kilos – that puts him at the 90th percentile and just under a kilo heavier than Luke was at this age. (Luke was 6.8 kilos). All other measurements are spot on where Luke was – length is 66cm and head circumference 43cm. Here’s a photo of each of the boys so you can see the differences.

The kilo makes a substantial difference and Alex is wearing the clothes that Luke wore when he was 6 months old. I still struggle with very frequent night wakings although last night it was at 4 hourly intervals but this is actually very unusual.

With the Child Health Nurse’s OK G and I started Alex on solids (baby rice) this weekend. He didn’t scoff it down but seems interested enough. I’m hoping he will start to satisfy his appetite with food since breast milk doesn’t seem to keep him satisfied as long as other babies. He sits with us when we eat dinner with Luke and looked ready to attack the roast chicken tonight so we don’t think we’ll have eating problems with him.
Alex has an extremely strong grip so watch out for your fingers, hair and clothes when you next see him. I’ve just about given up wearing my hair down as when he gets a handful it brings tears to my eyes! He’s always reaching out for Luke and grabbing at him which Luke is not very happy about. We tell Luke it’s because Alex loves him so much.
Recently Alex has discovered mirrors and he always gives me a huge smile when he recognises me then starts making eyes at the baby smiling back at him – probably wondering who that dark and handsome stranger is.
I think I’ve mentioned his talking before and he now has some new sounds including a banshee wail which is similar to a noise I remember Luke making. Alex has also discovered that he can delight himself for ages just blowing raspberries
Luke has also been up to lots of things so I’ll post another blog very soon updating on his adventures.
