Terrible but terrific twos

Where to stat with Luke – he grows up with each passing day and I have to remind myself to sit watch and watch him as he’s doing ‘big boy’ stuff all the time and I don’t want to fall back into familiar patterns and treat him like my little boy. There are many positives to this new side and some negatives such as the full blown tantrum he had at the local shopping centre on Saturday. Wow… Part of the cause of this ise that he has dropped his lunchtime sleep at home – not at school or the Possums just home. We have to be very careful that we don’t have an exhausted (and highly emotional) boy by the end of the day.

One of Luke’s (current) favourite things is a book of farm machinery where there are 3 images on each page. His way of reading is “Nuke sit on big tractor, Jack sit this little one and Sebby sit this little one. Nuke driving”. He goes through each page allocating the largest to himself then the others to us or his friends. Very sweet.

Luke’s little friend Jack has turned into a fussy eater which was very apparent when we invited Jack for dinner when we were having mushroom risotto. Luke scoffed it down and Jack wouldn’t even touch it. Then G brought out the cheese – stinky blue for Luke – and Jack looked too wary of the contents of our fridge to even trust us that the cheddar would be OK. Other favourite foods of Luke are prawns and oysters and he loves being part of the market shopping so he can influence what we have for lunch that day. Luke is very adept at the sampling on offer at the market consuming multiple bits of sausage, small tubs of yoghurt, olives etc.

Luke may be our blond, blue eyed little boy but he’s very much like G as in why walk when you can run.

Another recent development step is that Luke will ask “where going?” when we get in the car.

Given the fascination with sitting on big machinery and driving I took Luke to the open day at the East Melbourne Fire Station. He was so excited as were the other 30 little kids. They did demonstrations of truck roaring in and putting out fires and rescuing people which he loved. Then they played a game where 3 kids got dressed in small fireman’s uniforms and ran to sit in the truck. Luke watch the first round and then determinedly put his hand up for the second even though he was by far the smallest kid. He was so proud and I regret that the photo’s came out really blurry so I can’t share the moment with you as I would like.
