Technology is a must

We have gone through months of iPad obsession. In Luke’s eyes “all the kids have them” and our house hold is lagging. He then announced that for his Christmas list to Father Christmas this year he would ask for one thing and then he would get that. But the one thing is an iPad and I had to break the news that Father Christmas specialises in toys rather than technology. We then sat down and drew up a savings plan… it’s not going very well.
When everything gets quiet at home I know to look for the boys in the trees

The boys were watching a dragon movie one day and Luke earnestly announced “ I want a dragon, dragons are the same as iPads”. Not sure where he got that idea. I think things will be safer at home with an iPad than a dragon.
Alex was a little more comfortable on the wall than the tree, in our front yard
We had a big shift in the boys sleeping that coincided with me starting my new job. All of a sudden they were sleeping until 6:45am and even having to be woken by 7:15am so we could get them fed, dressed and out the door. However these things don’t last and it’s got a bit erratic since then.
Luke is very interested in Monopoly, he's already learning to cheat!

The London Olympics opening ceremony is on as I write this blog. The boys are watching and are quite fascinated with the performance. Both have been learning about the Olympics. Alex wants to know where the Olympic flag is. And Luke wants to know when the sport will start.

Alex preparing my birthday lolly bags
It was recently my birthday and Luke couldn’t believe that I wasn’t having a party. He then decided that I still had to prepare lolly bags. No idea where this rule has come from. Alex was home with me on my birthday so we went off to the shops and he chose the items. Then he carefully wrote the names on the bags and divided up the loot. Luke was impressed and I fear we have started a tradition.
I made marshmellow which was well received by the boys - very messy
The iPad obesseion is over and our house has been overtaken by Skylanders. All Grandparents had better take the time to learn what a Skylander is! As the boys get their own pocket money they have to buy the toys and things they want. So they found the Skylanders game for the Wii, pooled their money and set up an IOU for the balance. Pocket money days involve agreeing the total for the week, handing the money to the boys, pulling out the IOU tab and then they hand the money back. Oma and Aunty Karen have been talked into buying extra characters. The boys are no doubt very convincing.

AAAGH I wrote a comment& wiped it.
Happy birthday Jo and it was good to have Karen there to help.
And the lollie bags - lucky the boys are there so that you don't miss any of the important birthday protocols.
Technology may be good but trees look better and more fun than playing computer games.
I did look at Skylander on the internet and didn't understand even the starter level. Perhaps I need some 'hands on' instruction.
