Building friendships

Such big changes this year.  I knew that Alex was really ready for school and that it would have a positive impact on him.  The past months have been difficult with him and he’s been quite challenging.  Very much like Luke at the same age.  He was ready for the next challenge that school has presented.  It’s lovely to have my gorgeous, loving boy back and the say goodbye to the difficult, challenging one.

Luke continues to be delightful and has taken the role of the peacemaker in our house.  He really doesn’t like conflict or raised voices.  He will do whatever it takes for peace and quiet.  One day he even gave Alex his precious TaiKwonDo medal to get Alex to calm down and do what we needed him to do.

Luke had his first sleepover at Liam’s house during the school holidays.  Both boys were so excited.  All went well until bedtime at our house and Alex was in tears missing his brother.  We called Luke to say goodnight and to Luke’s credit he pulled himself away from his fun to say some kind words.  Alex still sobbed himself to sleep that night.

Lunch boxes are a challenge.  Alex loves wraps but eats most sandwich based things and often needs more than one.  Luke hates sandwiches and wraps but on occasion will eat bagels.  So Luke gets cold sausage rolls and other leftovers that I can assemble into his lunchbox.  G doesn't really blame him for his aversion to sandwiches!

Alex is making friends in his Prep class and now comes home talking of the kids and what he’s up to.  I haven’t seen much of his class because he hasn't been going on Wednesdays during February so haven’t had a chance to see him with his peers.  This last Wednesday we had two of his friends (and their Mums and little brother for one of them) over for a play.  He certainly is growing up.  Alex is so proud that one of the Mums invited him to their place next week and she will pick him up from school for the play date.
